California Climbing and Backcountry Skiing Report- Martin Luther King Weekend

Its a long weekend and the weather looks great in the Eastern Sierra! Look forward to moderate temps in the Bishop area, pow turns in the Mammoth area and as always sunny skies.

Welcome to our weekly climbing and backcountry skiing report for the state of California. Our goal is to provide a weekly single source of climbing and skiing conditions around the state. We hope you stay tuned!

Backcountry Skiing & Boarding

Eastern Sierra

This past storm came in quite warm with rain up to 8,600.  The goods can be found above 9,000 feet.  We found some great powder in Red Cone Bowl at 9,500.  Its still early season out, watch for rocks and down trees.  The Eastern Sierra Avalanche Center has started to report 7 days a week! As always know before you go and read the Avi Report.

Only have the weekend and want to get the best backcountry turns possible. Check out our Guided Backcountry Skiing Tours.

Tahoe

The backcountry skiing is limited in the Tahoe region with the best snow found in the Mt. Rose and Carson Pass areas.

Mount Shasta

The weather looks great for skiing Saturday and Sunday. Another storm is rolling through on Monday that is going to produce high winds and possible snow.

Ice Climbing

Lee Vining & June Lake Ice Climbing

June Lake Ice  fell apart in this last storm cycle. Cross your fingers for some cold nights to rebuild the ice.

Lee Vining Ice is going to be your best bet this weekend. We have a few guides hiking up the canyon to see how the ice is doing. Stay tuned for pictures.

Take your ice climbing to the next level and check out our Ice climbing Courses 2017/18

Temps in the ORG look good for sending.  Deadman summit received snow in this last storm. For for the adventurous people with a 4 wheel drive vehicle, Clarks Canyon is still accessible.

Yosemite Valley & Tuolumne Meadows

Looks like a great weekend to climb in the Valley with temps in the mid 60's and mostly sunny.

Tuolumne is closed for the season.
