INTRODUCTION TO BACKCOUNTRY SKIING & SPLIT BOARDING COURSE OVERVIEW

Looking to move beyond the Groomers and the crowded resort scene? Receive training from a backcountry skiing professional how to earn your turns in the backcountry with an AMGA trained and certified ski guide. Our backcountry ski courses are full 6-8 hour days actually in the backcountry, not on a resort run. Joining a professional ski guide in the backcountry is the only way to really learn how to safely ski or board in the backcountry.

Designed for advanced level resort skiers who are looking to try backcountry skiing & splitboarding, and for new backcountry skiers who are seeking professional training. This one-day instructional course is based out of Mammoth Lakes where you will find some of the best backcountry ski terrain in the country. Let us introduce you to the fabulous backcountry of the Eastern Sierra.

Backcountry skiing training includes:

  • Uphill skinning and track setting

  • Downhill backcountry-specific ski & boarding techniques

  • Backcountry safety and group management

  • Avalanche awareness & terrain selection

  • Intro to Avalanche rescue

We conduct these courses in the Eastern Sierra out of the Mammoth Lakes area...some of the best and most accessible backcountry ski terrain in California. We are the only backcountry ski guiding service actually based in Mammoth Lakes.

Mammoth Mountaineering in the town of Mammoth Lakes has a large selection of backcountry ski and split board rentals and offers our guests 20% off. Learn the art of backcountry skiing the right way and gain the confidence and skills to ski out of bounds on your own.
