Mount Emerson Southeast Face Overview

Mount Emerson’s Southeast Face climb is unique in that it is a technical High Sierra peak climb that can easily be done in a day from the trail head. At 13,200 feet, it is a true High Sierra alpine rock climb with pitched climbing, 3rd & 4th class scrambling and knife edge ridge climbing. A perfect beginner alpine rock climb for those in excellent physical shape.

The South East Face of Mount Emerson is one of our go-to alpine rock training climbs for bigger objectives such as more technical peaks in the Sierra or for our Alps climbing programs. It is also a fantastic “easier” technical High Sierra climb for those with limited time. The climbing is never very difficult, but there are sustained 3rd & 4th class sections, a few 5th class sections and a spectacularly exposed knife edge ridge at the top. It is our favorite done-in-a-day High Sierra Technical climb,

This climb is led by AMGA trained or certified rock and alpine guides who will be happy to share their many years of experience on the technical rock climbs of the Sierra Nevada mountains with you. Spending time with a qualified alpine rock guide is invaluable to safely devloping your alpine rock climbing skills.

We normally climb the Mount Emerson Southeast Face climb on a custom basis in an “extreme day” in which you will meet your guide early in the morning (around 4am) to start the climb. You can choose your own dates and at a maximum guide to guest ratio of 1:2.
