SIERRA PEAK CLIMBS OVERVIEW

International Alpine Guides offers the best of the technical High Sierra rock climbing peak ascents throughout the Sierra Nevada. We offer these special climbs on a custom basis so you can choose your own dates. Most of these climbs are big days and we ask that you are well acclimated before your day out with us. Below are just a few of our favorite High Sierra peaks that we guide. We can guide most peaks throughout the High Sierra so if you have something in mind please contact us!

Lone Pine Peak - North Ridge, 5.6
1 (or 2) days

A classic in the Mount Whitney Region, Lone Pine Peak offers excellent alpine rock climbing in a exposed setting. It's a long day from the Whitney Portal area with a very early alpine start. The climbing is engaging but never difficult. The views of the Whitney region and the Owen's Valley are spectacular. You will meet your guide the night prior and car camp near the trailhead. 

Mount Humphreys (13,992 feet)  - East Ridge, 5.6
1 (or 2) days

Only eight feet short of 14,000 feet, Mount Humphreys dominates the Sierra skyline from the town of Bishop. The full East Ridge offers climbers a varied, but never difficult High Sierra rock climb that can be done car to car in a long day. You will meet your guide the night prior and car camp near the trailhead. This climb is priced at the extreme day rate.

Mount Dana - Third Pillar, 5.10b
1 day

A High Sierra Classic 5.10 rock climb. For experienced outdoor rock climbers who are comfortable following 5.10 crack climbs, the Third Pillar is easily done in a day from the Tioga Pass Road.

The Incredible Hulk - The Red Dihedral, 5.10b
2 days

A classic rock climb on perhaps the best crag anywhere in the High Sierra. Most of the climbing is 5.8-5.9 with a short 5.10b crux. The "Hulk" is located in the High Sierra backcountry out of the Twin Lakes trail head neat the town of Bridgeport.This is a long day but very rewarding! You will meet your guide the night prior and car camp near the trailhead. 

Palisades Traverse - Thunderbolt Peak to Mount Sill. V, 5.9
5 Days

For experienced alpine rock climbers, this is one of the ultimate High Sierra climbs. A ridge traverse of 5 California 14ers in one climb. From a basecamp we climb the traverse and spend one night on route.

Middle Palisade - 4th class
2 days

Mount Sill - Swiss Arete, 5.7
3 days

North Palisade - U Notch, 60 degree ice & 5.6
3 days


These climbs are led by AMGA trained or certified rock and alpine guides who will be happy to share their many years of experience on the technical rock climbs of the Sierra Nevada mountains with you. Spending time with a qualified alpine rock guide is invaluable to safely devloping your alpine rock climbing skills. We offer these at a maximum guide to guest ratio of 1:2

 


EXPERIENCE & PHYSICAL FITNESS REQUIREMENTS

  • Previous multi-pitch rock climbing experience required with the ability to quickly follow outdoor rock climbs up to at least 5.6 in difficulty.

  • Previous backpacking experience highly recommended.

  • Previous off trail hiking & scrambling experience on uneven required.

  • Excellent physical condition required.

Climbing a Sierra peak is strenuous! You must train accordingly. Feel free to contact us for training recommendations.

One person: $550 per day or $790 for an extreme day
Two People: $345 per person per day or $525 each for an extreme day

  • Use of backpack, sleeping, bag & Pad if needed.
