DOLOMITES VIA FERRATA TOUR
Dolomites, Italy - 7 days
DOLOMITES VIA FERRATA GUIDED TOUR
The Dolomites of Northern Italy are the birthplace of via ferrata. Via ferrata was developed during World War One when the Dolomite mountains were the front lines. Via Ferrata was originally used as a way to move troops through vertical mountain terrain. Now it’s just plain fun! Via feratta is trekking on steroids. It involves following cables and ladders while scrambling through steep mountainous terrain with big exposure and spectacular views. We even spend one night in a high mountain hut called rifugios in Italy.
No climbing experience is necessary (but it helps), you just need to be in excellent physical shape and have an adventurous attitude. Our via ferrata tour is perfect for those with a little or no previous climbing experience but who are looking for something a lot more adventurous than regular trekking. We even seen highly experienced climbers have a blast on the via ferratas.
On our guided via ferrata tours with an internationally certified mountain guide we can help you navigate it all. We will provide the via ferrata set up. You just need your own clothes, footwear, harness and helmet. On some of the more difficult sections your guide may use a rope as an additional belay.
We meet in the central Dolomites town of Cortina d’Ampezzo and spend the first couple nights in a 4-star hotel as we go on a warm up via ferrata just outside of town. Then it’s off to the beautiful Alta Badia area where we spend a few more nights in a 4-stat hotel with Spa while sampling some of the best via ferratas of the Dolomites. Then it’s off to a high mountain hut for a night after summiting a nearby peak on a via ferrata. The hut is very comfortable with 4-course meals, wine lists and showers. Sleeping arrangements are dorm style. We finish up with more via ferrata routes back in the Cortina area.
Along the way we will explore old WWI tunnels and emplacements and take in the vistas of one of the world’s most beautiful places. For fit and adventurous souls this is THE way to see the Dolomites!
Our Dolomites via ferrata tours are led by American IFMGA certified guides who have extensive experience in this wonderful part of the world.
