Tahoe Frog Lake Backcountry Hut Ski Touring Overview

Enjoy the solitude and great skiing that only a backcountry hut trip affords you! We are excited to be offering this special guided backcountry ski tour out of the comfortable Frog Lake Hut just North of North Lake Tahoe.  The Frog Lake area, behind Castle Peak, has some of the best backcountry skiing in the North Lake area, and right out your front door.

The Frog Lake Hut, run by the Truckee Donner Land Trust, was recently built by skiers for skiers. It boasts gas heat, electricity, hot & cold running water, flush toilets and a cozy common area. Wake up to a cup of hot coffee or tea awaiting you. Your guide will cook you a hot breakfast in the morning and a hearty dinner at night. The accommodation is in a private room for our group with 4 bunk beds and an adjacent shared toilet. There are larger and smaller cabins for custom groups as well that can accommodate up to 8 skiers.

The adventure begins from the Castle Peak trailhead near Truckee, Ca. where we ski tour for half the day with a ski descent into the Frog Lake Hut. After check in we are free to explore the surrounding ski descents and ski tours for the next 3 days. Apres ski is spent in the main house, the renovated 100-year old Eschenbach Backcountry house sipping on a relaxing hot drink before enjoying a hearty dinner prepared by your guide.

The backcountry ski terrain in the area is fantastic far from the crowds. We limit this special trip to four skiers with one guide for everyones enjoyment. As one of the United States most experienced European Alps hut to hut ski touring guide companies, we are very excited to offer a very similar experience right here at our home base!

SKILL & EXPERIENCE LEVEL

Required skiing & boarding ability is advanced level at a ski resort. Must be comfortable in un-groomed (powder and crud) conditions. Some previous backcountry experience required. Very good physical shape required with the ability to hike uphill for many hours
