Nick Bakken French
Lead Alpine, Ski & Trekking Guide
AMGA Ski Guides & Alpine Skills Training
Nick grew up in California, concerned about the impacts of climate change, Nick went in search of glaciers in his youth, which led to his love of the mountains and their ecosystems. In college, he studied glaciers and environmental science and policy, traveling to Iceland, Alaska, and various locations throughout the lower 48. Nick cut his teeth mountain guiding in Wrangell-St. Elias National Park in Alaska, where he refined his skills as a mountain climber and skier. He loves traveling on glaciers, and if skiing is an option, he will bring skis. Nick has worked as professional ski patrol in California and Utah. While not guiding, Nick works as a glaciologist studying glaciers in the Cascade range. He has published papers on the climate impacts of glaciers in the Oregon Cascades.
